Business Wire
08 September 2005

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Sept. 8, 2005 - The growing therapeutic role of adult stem cells derived from adipose, also known as fat tissue, will be highlighted at a news conference to be held Monday, September 12, 2005, 12:30-1:45 pm Eastern at the 2005 International Fat Applied Technology Society (IFATS) scientific meeting in Charlottesville, VA.

The third annual IFATS conference will host 47 abstract presentations from around the world. These abstracts will demonstrate the ability of adipose adult stem cells to repair or regenerate new blood vessels, cardiac muscle, nerves, bones and other tissues potentially helping patients dealing with heart attack, brain and spinal cord injuries, and osteoporosis.

Adipose tissue is the most abundant source of adult stem cells, providing up to 100 times the amount of stem cells found in bone marrow. Adult stem cells may have greater potential to differentiate into a broad array of tissues than previously thought.
